Setting the background colour on a wxStaticText is currently not supported under wxGTK. See http://wxforum.shadonet.com/viewtopic.php?t=3830 and http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=586308&group_id=9863&atid=109863

Some would expect this under the name wxLabel. If they search the wiki they'll see it's wxStaticText.
